An Overview of Toyota Tacoma Engines

Tacoma is one of the best mid size or compact pickup trucks still manufactured by Toyota. Currently, it is giving a tough competition to the GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado and Nissan Frontier. And in the past, its rival set of trucks was Dodge Dakotan, Ford Ranger, etc. This truck is one of those few midsize trucks that are still ruling the market.

 Previous Editions of Toyota Tacoma:

The first generation Toyota Tacoma mid size truck was in the market from 1995 to 2004 and was driven by a 4 cylinder 2.4 liters, 4 cylinders 2.7 liters or V-6 3.4 liter engine. This generation offered both four wheels and the two wheel drive along with the option of extended or single cabs and long or short beds. In the nine years, the vehicle saw some special and limited editions that had some cosmetic upgrades.

Current edition of Toyota Tacoma:

The present Toyota Tacoma arrived in the market in 2005 and was still one of the best trucks produced by Toyota, but it also went through many remarkable changes. It is available in various configurations, X-Runner models, Double cab, Access cab, and Regular cab. All these are obtainable in with both long and short beds and four or two wheel drive.

X-Runner is a special model of these trucks that provide excellent performance, large alloy wheels and stiffer suspension. It also includes summer tires for improved “on road performance”. Optional modifications are also available on some models.

Performance of Toyota Tacoma Engines:

Toyota Tacoma comes with a standard 4 cylinder engine. Most of the automotive reviewers say that it generates adequate power for driving around the city. Although, some say that the optional V-6 adds more power to the engine. With both the engines, an automatic and manual transmission is available, which is praised by most people for providing smooth and better power delivery. It is also fuel efficient, offers estimated EPA of 21 or 25 mpg in the highway or city, which is decent for the class.

It’s best to get a test drive in order to experience the performance of the Toyota Tacoma engines in a better way. People who have taken a test drive of this vehicle say that its smaller and compact size has made it much easier for the user to handle the car.
